It Appears The People That Run Disney+ Finally Grew A Brain And Will Release New Episodes Of Their Star Wars Show 'Ahsoka' At 9 PM ET Instead Of 3 AM
Did the people in charge of Disney+ finally find out that airing shows in something called "Prime time" like pretty much every other good show ever is actually a good thing? Or did Disney+ losing hundreds of millions of dollars spur them to try a new strategy, such as releasing shows when almost all of America isn't sleeping?
As you can tell by the amount of snark in that first poorly written paragraph, I clearly don't understand why Disney decided that 3 AM ET was the best time to release the biggest shows of a streaming service that was built around them. I get that certain tech companies will release products at 3 AM ET because it's midnight on the West Coast where those tech companies are headquartered, which isn't a big deal because that's something that only happens so often and diehards on the East Coast can set an alarm to get whatever overpriced gadget is being sold.
But doing it with weekly TV shows is absurd, especially when a good chunk of those TV shows have been mid. Again, I'm not a media expert by any means. But I think releasing your shows when roughly 90% of your audience is sleeping is not a great idea considering you don't get any organic hype that comes when everyone is watching together and tweeting about all the different crazy shit that unfolds (See: Every Game of Thrones show ever). In fact, a 3 AM release time has people waking up and AVOIDING any mention of the show based on fear of spoilers not to mention people having to watch shows at different times let alone days because not everyone has fake jobs like us here at Barstool where we can head into the office whenever we want...Unless it's Dave's first day owning the company again.
Luckily it sounds like Disney+ fixed this problem by following a schedule for their big shows that every other media company ever has followed, which is a good thing. Again, I'm not sure if this was in the works for a while or Secret Invasion getting absolutely slaughtered in terms of ratings AND reception caused The Mouse to have a Comes To Jesus moment. But I'm happy they are at least trying to shake things up for Ahsoka, even if 9 PM ET is right at the cusp of how late my old, washed up ass can stay awake for an hour TV show. (I also reserve the right to take back anything nice I said about these faceless Disney+ suits if they bump Ahsoka back to 3 AM next week or go back to the old schedule for any future Star Wars or MCU show).
Obligatory Disney Boys shout out.
